The wedding bouquet. There are moments in time when flowers take center stage—and for me, weddings are one of those. The thought that goes into choosing the flowers that you will carry for that milestone in your life, will prove to be one of the biggest decisions in your life.
Three years ago today we said I do. And for this moment I always knew I wanted all white flowers and tulips needed to be part of the bouquet. I was going through a tulip phase. The final result was a beautiful array of white tulips, white peonies and spider mums, as well as Queen Anne's lace, white stock and white foxtail. And it was perfect. It was simple yet beautiful. But a wedding bouquet is not about just flowers—they symbolize that special moment. And the flowers speak a language of themselves.
White tulips represent worthiness... because after the journey I had until that moment, I finally knew the Lord deemed me worthy to have my happily ever after.
Queen Anne’s Lace represents sanctuary... which is what God provided me with my husband. He chose him for me and in his arms I felt safe and protected.
White mums stand for truth and loyal love... which is part of the promises we would make during the wedding vows, cemented in the foundation of our faith in God and his son Jesus.
White peonies embody romance and prosperity and are regarded as good fortune and a happy marriage. And in the end this is what we want for our marriage. It is why we married in church. A happy marriage that is pleasing to God and that follows His teachings.
As I carried my beautiful white flowers, I walked down the isle to meet him-- this man who is my best friend and my companion. I remember thinking that finally, after meeting when we were in the Army, after many deployments and overseas assignments, fate finally brought us together. We were friends for almost 18 years before the time was right. Our friendship developed into love and now we share our lives together. Funny how God works. It is always about timing-- His timing. And I am glad I listened to the small still voice of the Spirit when I prayed about marrying and uprooting my life to start a new one. It has been an interesting and, at times, challenging journey. But I would not do it with anybody else.
Happy anniversary, my love! Here is to many more!
