HULI HULI GAMEDAY CHICKEN WINGS

No matter what we are doing in the fall, Saturdays are #CollegeGameDay at our house. My husband is all about the Iowa State Cyclones since that is where he went to school, while I am all about the #Bama. I did not go to Alabama (my college did not have a football team) but have been a faithful fan since 1995— #RollTide. It really is the most time we spend together during the week because with work, school and sports we are all so busy. So Saturday football day, we try to make special when we can. And one of my favorite snacks (or meal) to make is Huli Huli Chicken Wings.

These are so simple to make and so delicious! My secret to get these ready for the afternoon games is cooking them in the crockpot and finishing them under the broiler for crispiness. These are ALWAYS a crowd please and there are never any leftovers. So here we go.

Huli Huli Game Day Chicken Wings

Ingredients:

Steps:

  1. Put the chicken wings in a crockpot and cook for 4 hrs. In the meantime, mix the the salt, smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder, and chili powder in a bowl and sprinkle over the chicken at the 1 hr. mark.

  2. As the wings continue to cook in the crockpot, prepare the huli sauce. In a saucepan, combine the pineapple juice, ketchup, soy sauce, honey, ginger, and garlic. Bring it to a boil. Then reduce the heat to medium, simmering for 15 minutes until the sauce thickens and has reduced by about a half.

  3. Set the oven to broil. Place a wire rack on a large baking sheet.

  4. When the wings are done, toss all the wings with half the sauce and place the coated wings on the wire rack. Broil for 5 minutes, keeping an eye on it to make sure it does not burn. ** You may have to do this in two batches.

  5. Remove from the broil and toss again in the additional sauce if you want to for extra sauciness.

  6. Serve and enjoy!

Note: A dipping sauce is always a good idea, but I personally love them by themselves. The sauce is THAT good. In this photo, the wings are served with a yogurt ranch dipping sauce.
