Hello, friends! It has been a while since I blogged about gardening. It has been a time of introspection since then, wondering what I want to do with the blog. I did not want to close it, as I still like connecting and meeting people this way. But I wanted it to be also more encompassing than just gardening. So I did a bit of a reorganizing and this gardening blog is now a section of my personal site. And here we are. So, welcome again!

As the winter kicks into high gear (we are having a snow storm as I type), the only thing gardener can do is plan for spring and summer. This year really, I am planning for summer, as I did not plant any spring flowering bulbs this year, as I did in 2018. But I am ok. In thinking about what I want to add to my garden, I am still a bit iffy about adding dahlias, thanks to the decimation of the mosaic virus last year. My heart is still a bit shocked by that.

But one area where I am ramping up my efforts is with roses. I am a fan of roses, especially David Austin’s. And this year I am adding 5 roses to the ones I already have. The first one I am adding is Emily Bronte (right). I have been stalking this rose since it was first introduced at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2018. Sadly, it was not available in the U.S. last year but it is in 2020! I really wanted this rose and so glad I was able to order it. This rose was created for the Emily Bronte Society to celebrate the bicentenary of the author. I have heard nothing but great things about this rose from my fellow David Austin rose lover on our Facebook group.

As mentioned, I am also adding a few more roses. I wanted to explore with deeper shades and also try a yellow rose. I am not crazy about yellow roses but wanted to add other colors. So I am adding:

• Heathcliff ~ a beautiful deep crimson rose with large double florets

• Wedgwood ~ a delicate pink climbing rose with medium to large sized bloom. The petals remind me of gossamer.

• Roald Dahl ~ my first yellow rose

• Alnwick ~ this is a return to my garden but it was my first casualty in my potted rose experiment. So I am replacing it.

It is going to be a really exciting time in the garden and I cannot wait to get started. Now, if we could get the snow to stop, that would be fabulous! :)
